If you’re ready to open your home and heart to a new pet – adopt, don’t shop! There are a number of great animal shelters and rescues in our area. And if you’re looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of north Georgia’s animals, these organizations always welcome contributions of time, money, or much-needed supplies. In this blog post, we will be exploring some of these facilities and the work they do.

  1. Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement is a facility that provides shelter, care, and adoption services for homeless and abandoned animals in the county. They offer various services, including adoption, microchipping, and spaying/neutering. The shelter has a team of dedicated staff who provide medical care, enrichment, and training to the animals in their care. They are located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
  2. Gwinnett Humane Society is a non-profit animal rescue organization that is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals in the area. They operate a no-kill shelter and offer various services such as pet adoption, fostering, and spaying/neutering. The organization also hosts adoption events and fundraisers to help support their efforts. The shelter is located at 750 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
  3. Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelter is Georgia’s largest no-kill animal rescue and shelter. They have a comprehensive adoption program, foster program, and a cat sanctuary for older cats. Furkids also offers low-cost spay/neuter services, medical care, and a pet food pantry for those in need. The shelter is located at 1520 Union Hill Road in Alpharetta.
  4. Atlanta Lab Rescue is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes Labrador Retrievers in the Atlanta area. They provide veterinary care, foster homes, and training to prepare the dogs for adoption. The organization also educates the public on responsible pet ownership and the benefits of adopting from shelters. The rescue is located at 2501 East Piedmont Road in Marietta.
  5. Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in Georgia. They provide foster care and medical treatment to the animals until they can be adopted into loving homes. The organization also has a senior dog program and a program for dogs with special needs. They have several locations throughout Georgia, including one at 1200 Northmeadow Parkway in Roswell.
